Batteries

Postby Remnant John » Tue Jan 03, 2012 2:50 pm

I Have an idea for a new use for Batteries.

I was playing on bunker the other day, and noticed you have to use your flashlight quite often on that map, and i thought it'd be a good idea for Flashlights to require batteries, i thought this because:

1. It adds a bit more realism to the gamemode

2. it adds another use for batteries (which atm i barely EVER use)

so, good idea?

I'd be against this personally. For dark maps like the Bunker, your flashlight is a necessity. For new players, if they came into the game while we're on a dark/night map then they're going to have a lot of trouble navigating and gathering supplies just so they can keep the flashlight active.

Batteries could use some new uses though. For instance, use them to power Sentry Turrets or the Miners (Miners could use something more advanced, like a power cell or something.)

Just my thoughts.

20 is a bit much, and even then if you give them free batteries, more than likely they're just going to click "Use Item" straight away when they look in their inventory and waste those batteries on a shield buff, then what? No flashlight for them. 9 out of 10 people who're new that I've personally met in the game don't have a clue on what they're doing as they don't bother to read the obvious stuff or even glance at the F1 Help page. Shoehorning this in will just raise more annoying questions from them I think, rather than adding another enjoyable handicap to the game. If you're going to do anything with the flashlights, just turn them into one of the old recharging ones from the Half-Life games. Limited battery life but once you switch it off it'll recharge again. I don't see much point in actually -doing- that but you're insistent on tweeking the flashlights it seems, so there's a better alternative than adding another "food bar" to the game.

When we start doing the electricity updates, we'll start thinking about batteries having more uses. Until then, their just to charge your liqui-solid kenetic body armor.
