Retirement?

Postby Remnant John » Mon Mar 05, 2012 6:34 am

just wondered if this map will ever be optomized to support more than 3 people?

i mean, i really do love this map, it's huge, plenty of bases to choose, and the fog makes it hard to see far, so you don't know what's coming.

I do plan on addressing the lag issue on this map again, I really want to get it working smoothly. Just will take alot of work in the process.

Mapping lingo, its basically the distance before stuff starts redering.

On a side note, I have been doing some more optimization to the map, and the good news is, it seems I can save the map from the chop block.
Untill adding the Z Clip Pane, and a few other fixes, I had feared this map would have to be canned.

I am also following some tips from Metroid on lightingas well. You should see the lighting on his new map for TBU, pretty sweet stuff.

Any rate, look for a update for this map pretty soon.

Oh, one last thing, I will be leaving the dynamic weather on this map, so there will be rain from time to time. 8-)

that's pretty awesome! i didn't know dynamic weather even existed!

and lol @ lightingas, sorry to rip on your error, but i lol'd right in the middle of computer class.

i'd love to see this map become playable, and then see say, 20 people on it?! i'd love traveling full-map to trade with someone ;D

I was testing the map with eldar and met yesterday and looking from corner to corner I had around 20 FPS in the dev server. Eldar added fade distance to his static props and such so maybe that will help more. Also, he is lowering the Z clip pane to 11,000 units which will likely help even more. Damn, very excited. It's actually a lot less laggy.

Also, that was your old card as well.
Met was getting about 60-70 FPS.

Not sure if you want to know what mine was :P
Mine rarly drops below 100FPS 8-)

Edit:
If your wondering, I have a 256-bit video card. Makes a differeance with power. Its a ATI Radion HD 4870 1GB made by HIS
