What source engine setting should I use for gmod maps?

Postby Sergeant Blueforce » Mon Feb 25, 2013 2:58 am

I have recently been trying to learn how to map for gmod, and because gmod doesnt appear on the list of source games on the sdk launcher, I have been using source engine 2009 and half-life 2.
Is this the right setting I should use or should I use something else? Additionally, how do I use assets from all gmod compatible games in one config?

There are a couple of ways to do this. My method is a bitdifferent. I extracted all the models and textures from the other games into my gmod dir to get access to everything.

As for the config, I will have to look that up.

So basically I merge the materials and models folders from all these games with the ones in my gmod folder, and then I create a config for garrysmod with its directory? (what I meant by config was the game and engine version you select in the sdk launcher, I used it because I saw people using it the other day in that context, but i'm not sure if it is the correct use of the word).

You have to extract the correct gcf files.

GCFScape: http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?p=26
then you can open the .gcf files in Steamapps\ folder. just drag the necessary files into a separate folder

Where do I extract them, and why do I need this software anyway?(also It would be helpful if you could post a video link that shows me how to do this if there is one)
