Geo-Thermal Generator

Postby Cap-Coop » Tue Feb 05, 2013 9:09 am

Has anyone considered the possibility of an extremely expensive generator that requires no fuel to manufacture power? How about a Geo-Thermal generator? It would be extremely expensive for obvious reason, in fact to make it logical, you could reason it would require a sonic miner in it's crafting to "dig-down" a pipe or something into the ground to get it to work. The model for the machine itself would have to be rather large and bulky to compensate in it's "no fuel required ability" but at the same time to balance this out further, it could have a placement system like the locker some-what. Requires 1 minute after being placed to "dig it's pipe" to sufficient depth to begin generating power, then another 1 or 2 minutes to be picked-up to remove it's pipe and cool-down.

Interesting idea, I can see how that could be balanced that way to a extent. Will have to think on that.

Interesting idea it is, but what prop would we even use? >.> To my knowledge these things are enormous.

Not sure on what prop we could use, as it would have to be enormous. Although then again, the Scientist can pull a Nuclear Reactor out of his ass.

We'll look into it. It's not a bad idea, and there are a few very large props were were considering while designing the nuclear and fusion generators that might be usable.

I was messing around on a PNRP server discussing somethings that could be added to the gamemode with a friend and we came across a rather large interesting prop that I thought maybe perfect for a Geo-Thermal Generator :
Q Menu > Games > hl2 > props_lab > generator
Fairly large and seems to look the part, the only problem being a section of it's back is not textured.

as far as im aware there not doing any custom models. but they can always texture a prop differently to make it look different.

In PNRP, we won't be using custom models (except for weapons). The problem with any custom models is that they have to be downloaded. We made weapons a free-game for modelling, but we haven't had a modeler willing to make weapon replacements.

Really love this idea, nothings worse than loading up a generator with fuel right before a server crash.
