Thought I'd bring this up since it was mentioned in another thread. At present there are very few restrictions in place on players creating their own vehicles using Wire and props. This is both good and bad since we're trying to approach an RP environment now. Some of the vehicles we do have already made (such as the hover bike I'm guilty of spawning when I'm bored, or Rahl's jet) pretty much ruin the atmosphere of the game, being in a post apocalyptic environment. So I figured I'd open up this thread for us all to discuss the "Do's" and "Don'ts" of vehicle construction in the game. I mean, we don't want to shut it out completely. Some more talented people could easily make something that doesn't break character, such as the motorcycle I've seen someone using (was that John? Can't recall). I'd also like to get around to making my own sort of truck at some point when I can be bothered with more Wire work.
My own major pet peeves with player made vehicles at the moment are:
1) They're often made from PHX probs, which is fine, but the lack of unrestricted use of the Material tool does leave a lot of them looking ugly and bare.
2) Few are made with wheels and most are made to actually fly. Such as helicopters. I'd love to see more bikes, trucks and off-roaders. Heck, maybe even some old rusted military vehicles, like troop transports.
3) Some are just plain unimaginative. Consiting of four wheels, some thrusters, a seat and just a flat PHX prop.
I know this is something which depends entirely on a persons own constructing skill. But personally if we're going for an RP game, if you can't make a decent looking vehicle you shouldn't be trying to make one in the first place!
Input here.
